Amy has been a communication practitioner for 18 years. She is currently a Professor of Media & Communication at Salem State University and holds graduate degrees in Media and Communication, a graduate certificate in Women & Gender Studies, and an undergraduate degree in Organizational Communication. Prior to pursuing a graduate education, Amy worked as a client manager in a role that included curriculum development and internal product training. Amy’s research focuses on the overlap between leadership skills and community building. Her work has been published in a variety of scholarly outlets and presented at multiple academic conferences. Her 2012 book Tracing Family Lines and her 2019 TedTalk about garment-making have been received well by both academic and layperson audiences. 

Amy’s teaching experience is robust and includes working with traditional college students and adult learners in online and in-person delivery formats. Courses she teaches include gender & media, professional & online communication, organizational communication, public speaking, media training, race & media, media & society, conflict negotiation, media literacy, and career prep/portfolio development. Amy also has experience designing marketing materials/plans for creative entrepreneurs, grant writing, coaching & editing written and verbal presentations, and content creation grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
